Class. A little ancy about it being Friday. We were only able to finagle leaving 5 minutes early. Then we tried to pick up our laundry but it wasn’t quite done yet. And by “wasn’t quite done” I mean it was hanging out on a clothesline between two trees for all to see. Yes, I took a picture. All of China can view my Care Bear underwear, should they so choose.
Skipped lunch in the cafeteria, and ate our cream cheese pastries in the hotel room. Went ahead to the gym and did our workout, showered, napped, and I put on a new dress. Left for dinner in the city around 6 pm.
Dear god, if you are ever in Shanghai, I suggest you visit Azul. It’s listed in our guidebook as a Tapas/fusion restaurant, and it is phenomenal. Nothing on the menu sounded bad, and everything we ordered was really good. Tapanade. Hummus. Mediterranean eggplant dip. Grilled asparagus. Garlic fries. Beef empanadas. Frog legs. Crab-salmon-cilantro ravioli. Salmon. Sea bass. Oxtail Gnocchi. Mushroom risotto. 4 pitchers of Sangria (peach, blackberry, and 2 classic red…possibly the best Sangria I’ve ever tasted). And a Spanish red. SO DELICIOUS. I want to eat everything again, and try even more.
Then across the street to Tequila Sunrise, a bar that we’re pretty sure doubled as a brothel.
Had a beer, played a game of pool, then half of us headed to a jazz and blues bar, the other half stayed for more pool and beer (and women?). The jazz and blues bar is the current home of the The Wolfberry Blues Band, five guys from Pennsylvania and North Carolina, who have a four month gig at this bar.
We talked to one of the guys (he recognized Jenny from a previous night) and he was a lot of fun. The music was fun, and the drinks decent, but we were tired (fully bellies), so we took a cab home and crashed.
We have a full day of site-seeing and shopping tomorrow.
