First: I'd like to apologize for accidentally skipping a day. I have gone back and added June 21st (the first day in Rome) so you can scroll down for that. Now on to the 23rd...
Woke up, packed up, and on to Florence! It is much smaller than Rome. Our hostel was not even a 10 minute walk to the Duomo, and everything else wasn’t more than 10 or 20 minutes beyond that. We also ran into one of the photographers from the wedding, as he decided to continue his own travels in Italy as well. We saw the David replica (they put the real one in a museum).
And have I mentioned how much gelato we eat? We get it everyday. Sometimes more than once. For dinner we got an online recommendation for Gusta Pizza, and it definitely ended up being gusta pizza. We then trekked up to the Piazzale Michelangelo (and I do mean “up”) to get a panoramic view of Florence. We stuck around for the sunset, and then eventually made our way back home, with plans to climb to the top of the Duomo the next morning.
Picture time!
Once we arrived, we started with a meal.
We were walking down the street, and then we stepped out from behind a building and unexpectedly saw this. I believe Christine's reaction was something like "oh shit".
Hi, i'm the Duomo. I'm really big, and kinda gaudy.
They toned it down a little on the inside.
Gold doors on the baptistry (dante was baptized there)
Fake David.
Gusta Pizza. The doors opened at 7pm, and by 7:10 the place was packed.
We soon learned why.
